WORLD’S OLDEST MARATHON RUNNER FAUJA SINGH DIES AT 114

CURRENT CONTEXT: Legendary marathoner Fauja Singh, known worldwide as the Turbaned Tornado, passed away after being hit by a vehicle while walking near his village Beas Pind on 14 July 2025.

• Date of Birth: 1 April 1911 (claimed), Beas Pind, Punjab
• Running Career:
  • Began at age 89 in London (2000); completed marathons in London, New York, Toronto
  • First centenarian to complete a marathon (Toronto, 2011); personal best 5h 40m (aged ~92)
• Achievements & Recognition:
  • Olympic torchbearer (Athens 2004, London 2012)
  • Honored with British Empire Medal, Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
