Kandla Port

The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, has announced significant initiatives to enhance the capacity of Kandla Port (Deendayal Port) in Gujarat, India, with a total investment exceeding ₹57,000 crores. Kandla Port (Deendayal Port) was established in the 1930s with an RCC jetty by Maharao Khengarji. Renamed Deendayal Port in 2017 under the Indian Ports Act, 1908. India's metro rail network has expanded to over 1,000 kilometers, making it the third-largest globally, following China and the United States.  The first metro system in India, the Kolkata Metro, began operations in 1984. The Delhi Metro, inaugurated in 2002, is the largest in India, with an operational network of 395 kilometers. As of January 2025, metro services are operational in 11 states and 23 cities across India, collectively covering over 1,000 kilometers. Current Context : The Union Cabinet approved eight new railway projects at an estimated cost of ₹24,657 crore to provide connectivity, facilitate ease of travelling, minimise logistics cost, reduce oil imports and lower carbon dioxide emissions. The projects cover 14 districts in the seven States of Odisha, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Telangana and West Bengal. Current Context : PM Modi Lays Foundation For India’s Longest Urban Tunnel Between Borivali And Thane. The 8 km long twin tunnel will start from Thane side and end on national highway 8 at Borivali with two operational lanes and one emergency lane. It is a project of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority.
