Aim : to raise awareness about the conservation of elephants and to promote efforts to protect these majestic animals.
GOVERNMENT INITIATIVE ON ELEPHANT CONSERVATION :
- Project Elephant (India) : launched: In 1992 to protect elephants and their habitats, prevent poaching, and mitigate human-elephant conflicts.
INTERNATIONAL CONSERVATION EFFORTS :
- CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora): To regulate international trade in elephant ivory and other products.
- Asian Elephant Conservation: aimed at conserving Asian elephants, including habitat preservation and conflict mitigation.
