India’s First Organic Fisheries Cluster

Union Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh launched the country’s first-ever organic fisheries cluster in Soreng District, Sikkim.

• The initiative focuses on ecologically sustainable and chemical-free fish farming.
• The cluster aims to provide organic, antibiotic-free, and pesticide-free fish to global eco-conscious markets.
• It aligns with Sikkim’s reputation for sustainable agricultural practices and its commitment to organic farming.
• The initiative includes species like amur carp and promotes minimal environmental pollution.
• NABARD will fund the cluster, support infrastructure, and form fisheries-based Farmer Producer Organizations (FFPOs).
