Current Context : Chhonzin Angmo, a tribal woman from Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh, has become the first visually-impaired Indian woman to summit Mount Everest.
About
- Background: Born in Chango village, Angmo lost her sight at age 8.
- Education: Graduated and completed her master’s from Miranda House, Delhi University.
- Previous Achievements:
- Trek to Everest Base Camp (5,364 m) in October 2024.
- Summited Mt. Kang Yatsae 2 (6,250 m) in Ladakh.
- Part of the Divyang expedition team that scaled a 6,000 m peak in Ladakh.
- Awards:
- Sarvshresth Divyangjan National Award (2024).
- NAB Madhu Sharma Young Achiever Award.
