International Jaguar Day

Celebrated annually on November 29th .

  • Aim :to raise awareness about the conservation of jaguars, the largest wild cat in the Americas. This day highlights the jaguar’s role as an umbrella species for biodiversity conservation and promotes its protection.
  • This day was created in 2018 during the Jaguar 2030 Forum at the UN Headquarters.

 

About Jaguar

  • The jaguar is native to the Americas and is the largest cat in the Western Hemisphere, found from the Southwestern US to Argentina.
  • Conservation Status: Classified as near-threatened by the IUCN due to habitat loss, poaching, and human-wildlife conflict. Its population has declined by about 20-25% in the past three decades.
