ABOUT SANGAM INITIATIVE

• The Sangam initiative was launched by Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
• Aim : to revolutionizing infrastructure planning and design through the utilization of cutting-edge technologies and collective intelligence.
• It symbolizes a collaborative leap towards reshaping infrastructure planning and design, combining the prowess of 5G, IoT, AI, AR/VR, AI native 6G, Digital Twin and next-gen computational technologies.
• It brings all stakeholders on one platform with aiming to transform innovative ideas into tangible solutions, bridging the gap between conceptualization and realization, ultimately paving the way for groundbreaking infrastructure advancements.

Current Context : Recently, Six Asiatic lions have migrated from Gir Forest to the Barda Wildlife Sanctuary (BWS).

ABOUT ASIATIC LIONS

• The Asiatic Lion are also known as the Persian Lion or Indian Lion.
• They are member of the Panthera Leo Leo subspecies.
• They are slightly smaller than African lions.
• Lions have no particular breeding season.
• IUCN status: Endangered
• CITES: Appendix I
• Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972: Schedule I and IV
• Habitat: Only in Gir forest and other protected areas in Gujarat Saurashtra region.

ABOUT BARDA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

• Located in Gujarat.
• Area falls into two districts, Porbandar and Jamnagar.
• Flora: About 650 plant species includes – Gorad, Babul, Dhav, Rayan, Ber, Jamun, Amli, Dhudhlo, Bamboo.
• Fauna: Leopard, Hyena, Wild boar, wolf, Jackal, blue bull, Rare and endangered spotted eagle and crested hawk eagle etc.

• It is a charity supporting the creation of data-driven solutions to help protect against global health threats.
• It was launched in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, which highlighted a global need to be better prepared to tackle healthcare emergencies.
• It is a partnership of over 40 leading global organizations including the private, public, and social sectors.

About IIIT-Delhi’s project ‘AMRSense: Empowering Communities with a Proactive One Health Ecosystem:

• It was led by IIIT-Delhi, in collaboration with CHRI-PATH, 1mg.com, and ICMR.
• AMRSense addresses the challenges of engaging, motivating, and training community health workers (CHWs) in AMR surveillance and management, compounded by the lack of a comprehensive data ecosystem and analytics capabilities.

Current Context : After consuming hooch or spurious liquor, nearly 50 people have died and around 100 others have been hospitalised in Tamil Nadu’s, Kallakurichi.

ABOUT

• Hooch is a commonly used term for poor quality alcohol, derived from Hoochinoo, a native Alaskan tribe that was known to produce very strong liquor.
• It is also known as wood alcohol.
• It appears as a colorless fairly volatile liquid with a faintly sweet pungent odor like that of ethyl alcohol.
• It contains methanol, an industrial alcohol which is highly toxic for human beings.
• Methanol has a boiling point of 7 °C, lower than that of ethanol 78.37 °C.
• Methanol is a toxic alcohol that is used industrially as a solvent, pesticide and alternative fuel source.

Current Context : Recently, chief minister of Himachal inaugurated the 32 MW solar power project in Pekhubela, Una.

• It is developed by Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL)
• Project features 82,656 solar modules with electricity being transmitted through the Rakkad-Tahliwal Transmission line.
• Project is spread over 49 hectares.
• Electricity production – 61 crore units of electricity each year by generating Rs 19.17 crore revenue.
• It reduce carbon emissions by 2,532 tonne annually.
