Dengue

Current Context : Recently, the Karnataka High Court took suo motu cognisance of the rise and the spread of dengue across the State.

ABOUT DENGUE

  • It is a mosquito-borne viral infection.
  • Also knowns as break-bone fever.
  • It is more common in tropical and subtropical climates, mostly in urban and semi-urban areas.
  • Transmission: transmitted to humans through the bite of infected Aedes mosquitos carrying one of four types of dengue virus (DENV).
  • A person can be infected with dengue multiple times in their life.
  • Symptoms: high fever, headache, body aches, nausea, and rash.
  • Most will get better in 1–2 weeks.

Current Context : The ministry of home affiars released a notification to declare June 25 as ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’ (Constitution Murder Day).

  • Aim : to pay homage to the power of the constitution and democracy of India and commemorate the struggles caused by the imposition of the Emergency in 1975 on that day.

ABOUT EMERGENCY :

  • The Emergency in India was a 21-month period from 25 June 1975 to 21 March 1977.
  • On the advice of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed proclaimed a state of national emergency on 25 June 1975.
  • Emergency provisions are borrowed from the Of India Act 1935.
  • Indian Constitution deals emergency under Part XVIII- Articles 352 to 360.
  • Three types of emergencies;
  • National Emergency (Articles 352-354, 358-359)
  • President’s rule (Articles 355-357)
  • Financial Emergency (Article 360)
  • During emergency, central government becomes all powerful and states are in the complete control of the union.

Current Context : Recently, A play on the life of Kanshi Ram, known as ‘Pahari Gandhi’, was staged in Shahpur by the Trigarta Vasundhara Rangmanch to commemorate his birth anniversary.

  • It was based on Kanshi Ram’s journey, who, through his poems and songs motivated the youth during Independence.

ABOUT KANSHI RAM

  • He was born in Guranbaad village near Dadasiba in tehsil Dehra of
  • Baba Kanshi Ram was conferred the title of ‘Pahari Gandhi’ in 1937 by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India.
  • Kanshi Ram vowed to wear black clothes until the day India achieved its independence.
  • He adhered to his vow until his death on October 15, 1943, and came to be known affectionately as the ‘Siyahposh Jarnail’ (The Black General).

Food Processing Award

Current Context : Recently, Himachal state has been awarded by the Best State in Food Processing Award-2024 for its outstanding work in introducing innovative programmes in the sector.

  • Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari presented the award at the Agriculture Leadership Conclave.
  • There are 23 designated food parks in Himachal
  • One dedicated mega food park and two agro processing clusters in Kangra and Solan
  • Additionally, 18 cold chain projects and numerous food processing units have been established under the State Mission on Food Processing Scheme and the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana.

  • Funds Allocated : Rs 31 crore for solar power plant
    • Rs 5.17 crore for fisheries training centre

ABOUT SOLAR POWER PLANT :

  • Capacity : 5 MW
  • HP Power Corporation Ltd was constructing the solar power project
  • Electricity generation :54 million units of power every year.
  • Annual revenue generation of Rs 3.82 crore.

Significance : will help in reducing 396 tonne of carbon emission every year.

Current Context : Recently, Bangladesh became the fifth member State of the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC).

ABOUT COLOMBO SECURITY CONCLAVE (CSC).

  • It is a regional security grouping that includes India, Sri Lanka, Mauritius and the Maldives ( now Bangladesh included)
  • Objective : To make maritime security, marine pollution response and maritime search & rescue priorities for the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
  • It was formed in 2011 as a trilateral maritime security grouping of India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
  • It was renamed as the CSC in
  • Mauritius joined as forth member at the fifth meeting of the grouping in Male in March 2022.
  • Seychelles participated as an Observer State at the meeting.
  • Secretariat of the CSC in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

ABOUT MUTUAL RECOGNITION AGREEMENT (MRA)

  • The MRA will promotes the export of major Indian organic products such as Rice, Processed Food, Green/Black and Herbal Tea, Medicinal plant products etc,. to Taiwan.
  • Implementation agencies from India: Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).
  • Under it, agricultural products produced and handled organically in conformity with the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) are allowed for sale in Taiwan including display of the “India Organic” logo.
  • NPOP provides an institutional framework for Accreditation of certification bodies and certification of organic products.

ABOUT UMLING LA PASS:

  • Located at an altitude of 19,024 feet in the Eastern Ladakh along the Ladakh Range.
  • It is renowned for being the highest motorable road in the world.
  • Constructed by the Border Road Organization (BRO) under Project Himank.
  • Geostrategic importance of Road-Improves connectivity to the Line of Actual Control(LAC).
  • It covers a distance of almost 86km, connects Chisumle and Demchok villages.

  • Aim : to help make the naming of medical devices simpler.
  • MeDevIS references: It has two international naming systems for medical devices
    • European Medical Device Nomenclature (EMDN): Mostly used in European countries
    • Global Medical Device Nomenclature (GMDN): Used in Australia, Canada, USA and other member countries.
