  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the World Dairy Summit on 12th September in Noida at India Expo Centre and Mart.
  • India is organising the summit after almost a 48-year gap bringing together approximately 1500 participants from all over the world including CEOs and employees of dairy processing companies, dairy farmers, and other stakeholders.
  • Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, India is committed to sustain its growth in milk production and milk processing in the coming decades.
  • Remembering the “Father of White Revolution”, Dr Verghese Kurien, on his death anniversary , it must be pointed out that India currently is the largest milk producer in the world, contributing 21 percent of the total global milk production.
  • It was under the guidance of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri that the National Dairy Development Board was formed in 1965 in Gujarat with Dr Verghese Kurien as its first chairman.
  • Operation Flood programme was implemented across country in various phases with a mandate to support the creation of the ‘Anand pattern’ of dairy cooperatives.
  • The daily milk consumption in the country was 107 grams per person in 1970 which rose to 427 grams per person in 2020-21.

  • President Droupadi Murmu has said that Jan Bhagidari is the key to eliminate tuberculosis from the country.
  • The President was speaking after virtually launching the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan to reinvigorate the mission of TB elimination from the country by 2025.
  • During the event, President Murmu also launched the Ni-kshay 2.0 initiative, a portal to provide a platform for donors to provide various forms of support to those undergoing TB treatment.
  • She said that under the world’s biggest Aushman Yojana, the wellness centres have been especially geared to work towards the elimination of Tuberculosis.
  • Emphasising on the commitment of New India to fighting against TB, President Murmu said that India’s response to COVID-19 is a testimony to India’s seriousness on the matter.
  • She emphasised on the importance of role of public representatives in the success of the cause.
  • Recalling the adage of prevention is better than cure, the President said that the TB prevention programme will be initiated soon.
  • She asked people to not feel any sort of inhibition and come forward to help in early detection and elimination of tuberculosis.
  • The President said that the new portal Nikshay 2.0 has been upgraded to make the information easily available to people.
  • Speaking on the occasion, Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s clarion call to end TB in the country five years ahead of the Sustainable Development Goals of 2030.
  • He added that through people’s participation, India will defeat the tuberculosis.
  • The initiative of Nikshay Mitra is based on the concept of community support for TB extinction.
  • To become a Nikshay Mitra, the mentor will have to register on.
  • The Nikshay Mitra can choose nutritional, diagnostic, vocational and additional nutritional supplements support.
  • The Nikshay Mitra can choose the duration of support ranging from one year to three years. They can also choose the state, district, block, health facilities.
  • The district TB officer will facilitiate the process of become Nikshay Mitra.

  • Recently, the government constituted a 47-member committee, headed by former union cabinet minister Suresh Prabhu to draft a new national cooperation policy document .
  • This Policy is being formulated to realize the government’s vision of ‘Sahakar Se Samriddhi’.
  • It will have a holistic approach from primary agriculture credit societies (PACS) upwards.
  • It will fulfill the mandate given to the new Ministry of Cooperation, which includes strengthening cooperative movement in the country and deepening its reach up to the grassroots, and promoting cooperative-based economic development model.
  • The existing National Policy on Cooperatives was formulated in 2002.
  • It will promote a cooperative-based economic development model.
  • The new policy will go a long way in strengthening the co-operative movement in the country.
  • India has about 8.5 lakh co-operative societies with a member base of around 29 crore. These co-operatives are engaged in varied activities like agro-processing, dairying, fisheries, housing, weaving, credit, and marketing, among others.

  • The Empowered Committee headed by CEO, NITI Aayog Parameswaran Iyer approved first ever disbursement of incentive for mobile manufacturing under the large-scale electronics manufacturing’ sector.
  • The Production-Linked Incentive scheme for Large-Scale Electronics Manufacturing is expected to make India a competitive destination for electronics manufacturing.
  • It will also give a boost to Aatmanirbhar Bharat while creating more global champions.
  • Padget Electronics Private Limited, a domestic company, is the first beneficiary approved by the Empowered Committee to receive incentive under mobile manufacturing based on its incremental investment and sales figures.
  • NITI Aayog said, thirty-two beneficiaries had been approved under the PLI scheme for Large-Scale Electronics Manufacturing.
  • Of which five global and five domestic companies were approved for mobile manufacturing. For the quarter ending June this year, the applicants under this PLI scheme had undertaken sales of over 1.67 lakh crore rupees, including export of 65,240 crore rupees.
  • This PLI scheme has also generated employment of 28,636.

  • The state government today urged the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to declare the lumpy skin disease (LSD) as an epidemic. There has been a sudden spurt in cases of the disease among cattle in nine districts of the state.
  • On August 10, the State Animal Husbandry Department had declared the LSD as a scheduled disease under Chapter II, Section 6 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animal Act 2009.
  • However, seeing the recent surge in cases, Sudesh Mokta, Director-cum-Special Secretary, Revenue, wrote to the Central government, requesting it to declare the disease as an epidemic.
  • The disease has witnessed a spurt in the past few days. As many as 2,309 head of cattle have died and 55,926 have been infected with the disease in the state till now,” he wrote in the letter to the Joint Secretary, Disaster Management Division, Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
  • He added that the disease had cast a shadow on the livestock in the state and so needs to be declared as an epidemic.
  • Mokta said, “It is only after the disease is declared as an epidemic that the disaster, relief and rehabilitation component of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) can be provided to aggrieved farmers.
  • Nine districts have been affected by the disease but Sirmaur, Shimla and Solan are the worst-hit districts.
  • Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti and Kullu have so far not reported any LSD case.
  • Kangra has also been affected badly. It has witnessed the death of 566 head of cattle while 18,625 head of cattle have been infected.
  • Una district has reported the death of 556 head of cattle while 8,585 head of cattle have been infected.
  • Solan district has witnessed 336 deaths while 7,491 head of cattle have been infected with the disease.
  • The Animal Husbandry Department claimed that over 1.40 lakh vaccines had been provided to curb the spread of the disease.
  • The Himachal Kisan Sabha has demanded that the LSD be declared as an epidemic, as a large number of farmers in the state are dependent on dairy farming.

  • The new concept of border tourism has proved a hit in the Union Territories of Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir with the respective governments opening border destinations along the international border (IB) and Line of Control (LOC) for tourists.
  • Tourists have started thronging the border destinations that give an eyeball-to-eyeball experience with people across the IB and LOC.
  • Teetwal on the LOC in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, Suchetgarh along the IB in the Jammu district and Turtuk on the LOC in Ladakh have registered an increased footfall of tourists following patronage of the respective governments.
  • Militarily strategic Turtuk was captured by India during the 1971 war with Pakistan and it has become India’s northernmost village on the LOC. It is attracting a large number of tourists keen to witness the Baltistani culture and stone utensils made locally.
  • Governor Manoj Sinha has given a push to border tourism at Suchetgarh.
    In order to promote Teetwal as tourist destination under Border Tourism in the Valley, the Tourism Department in collaboration with district administration of Kupwara, Lolab- Bungus-Dringyari Development Authority (LBDDA), Cultural Academy and Army organised a border tourism festival on the banks of Kishen Ganga at Teetwal near zero line.
  • The Director Tourism said that the aim of the Border Tourism Festival at historical Teetwal was to promote the area as a tourist destination besides providing a platform to local artists to showcase their talent.
  • He further said that the border tourism has a potential to change the socio-economic condition of the people. He urged the people to get registered for home stays as tourists prefer home stays to enjoy rich cultural heritage.

  • The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) Centre for Citizen Services, was inaugurated by Chief Justice of India Uday Umesh Lalit.
  • The space at Jaisalmer House which was provided to NALSA would be utilised for the establishment of Legal Assistance Centre for Citizens, Legal Assistance Centre for NRIs, Training Centre, and Digital Command Centre for providing futuristic legal services across the country.
  • The NALSA office which was earlier placed at Jamnagar House was shifted to the Additional Building Complex of the Supreme Court of India on November 9, 2021.
  • The space at Jaisalmer House which was provided to NALSA would be utilised for the establishment of Legal Assistance Centre for Citizens, Legal Assistance Centre for NRIs, Training Centre, and Digital Command Centre for providing futuristic legal services across the country.

About the NALSA:

  • The NALSA has been constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 to provide free Legal Services to the weaker sections of the society.
  • Its purpose is to provide free legal services to eligible candidates, and to organize Lok Adalats for the speedy resolution of cases.
  • While the CJI is the Patron-in-Chief, the second senior most judge of the Supreme Court of India is the executive chairperson of the Authority.
  • There is a provision for similar mechanism at the state and district levels also headed by the Chief Justice of High Courts and Chief Judges of District courts respectively. The prime objective of NALSA is speedy disposal of cases and reducing the burden of the judiciary.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India is keen to strengthen its partnership with Russia on Arctic subjects.
