ABOUT WORLD MANGROVE DAY
- Purpose: Recognizes the environmental and social importance of mangrove forests — including coastal protection, biodiversity support, carbon storage, and fisheries sustainability.
- Conservation Concern: Highlights the rapid global loss of mangroves — with some countries losing over 40%between 1980 and 2005; the overall decline rate is 3–5 times faster than other forests.
- 2025 Theme: “Protecting Wetlands for Our Future”, focusing on nature-based solutions for environmental sustainability.
