Current Context : Recently, State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture report is released.

  • It is prepared and released by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
  • Report specially focused on “Blue Transformation in Action”.

RELEVANT FACTS:

  • In 2022, global fisheries and aquaculture production raised to 223.2 million tonnes by increasing 4 percent from the year 2020.
  • Production comprised 4 million tonnes of aquatic animals and 37.8 million tonnes of algae.
  • India ranked second in aquatic animals’ production with 8 percent of total production.
  • India ranked first in Inland fisheries with 1.9 million tonnes production.

BLUE TRANSFORMATION IN ACTION

  • FAO introduced its “Blue Transformation” vision in 2021.
  • It aims to leverage aquatic food systems, to enhance food security, improve nutrition, etc.
