RELEVANT FACTS:
- In 2022, global fisheries and aquaculture production raised to 223.2 million tonnes by increasing 4 percent from the year 2020.
- Production comprised 4 million tonnes of aquatic animals and 37.8 million tonnes of algae.
- India ranked second in aquatic animals’ production with 8 percent of total production.
- India ranked first in Inland fisheries with 1.9 million tonnes production.
BLUE TRANSFORMATION IN ACTION
- FAO introduced its “Blue Transformation” vision in 2021.
- It aims to leverage aquatic food systems, to enhance food security, improve nutrition, etc.
