Current Context : During the 14 June 2025 Air India flight crash at Ahmedabad, pilots issued a Mayday distress call to Air Traffic Control, triggering immediate emergency response.

ABOUT MAYDAY

• Origin: Coined circa 1923 by radio officer Frederick Stanley Mockford as the phonetic of French m’aider (“help me”).
• Adoption: Formalised in 1927 by the International Radiotelegraph Convention alongside Morse SOS.
• Usage: Declared by repeating “Mayday” three times to signal life‑threatening emergencies in aviation and maritime contexts.
