Current Context : The 2nd National Lighthouse Festival, including the first ‘Lighthouse Tourism Conclave 2024,’ took place in Puri, Odisha.
- It was organized by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW).
- Aim : to explore the tourism potential of lighthouses, enhance awareness of India’s maritime heritage, and promote conservation efforts
- The initiative includes the transformation of 75 iconic lighthouses across 9 coastal states and 1 union territory into tourist attractions. These lighthouses have been equipped with facilities like maritime museums, amphitheaters, children’s parks, and more.
- Goal : to transform these structures into centers of tourism, culture, and learning. The initiative aligns with the Maritime India Vision 2030.
