Recently, Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar inaugurated India’s first vertical bi-facial solar plant at Okhla Vihar metro station, along with a 1 MW rooftop solar installation at Khyber Pass metro depot in Delhi.
- The event was organized by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) under the i-Metro banner, in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).
- The 50 KW vertical solar plant features bi-facial panels that capture sunlight from both sides, maximizing energy efficiency.
- By 2030, India aims for metro systems to be primarily powered by renewable energy, utilizing advancements in energy storage, smart grid integration, and sustainable construction.
