  • Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna (DDUGJY) was launched in December 2014 to create basic electricity infrastructure in villages by strengthening and augmentation of the existing infrastructure and metering of existing feeders/distribution transformers.
  •  It is one of the key initiatives of Government of India and a flagship programme of the Ministry of Power.
  • The DDUGJY scheme has benefitted rural households significantly as electricity is vital for growth and development of the country.
  • Under the scheme, 60% of the project cost (85% for Special States) is provided as grant by Government of India and additional grant upto 15% (5% for Special Category States) is provided on achievement of prescribed milestones.
  • All erstwhile Rural Electrification (RE) schemes (including Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana) have been subsumed into DDUGJY. Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (REC) Limited has been designated as the Nodal Agency for operationalization of DDUGJY.

The major components of the scheme are:

  • Separation of agriculture and non-agriculture feeders facilitating judicious restoring of supply to agricultural & non-agriculture consumers in the rural areas.
  • Strengthening and augmentation of sub-transmission & distribution infrastructure in rural areas, including metering of distribution transformers/feeders/consumers.
  • Completion of micro grid and off grid distribution network & Rural electrification already sanctioned projects under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY)
