About Aravalli Green Wall Project
- Launched by Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change
- Objective: Restoration of degraded forest land across a 5 km buffer area around the Aravalli Range in Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Delhi. Inspired by Africa’s Great Green Wall initiative.
Focus Areas:
- Prevent eastward desertification and soil erosion.
- Enhance carbon sequestration, improve biodiversity, and water quality.
- Promote afforestation, agroforestry, and pasture development for sustainable livelihoods.
About Aravalli range in India
- One of the oldest fold mountain systems in the world. It has considerably worn down due to erosion.
- Aravali Hills lie on western and northwestern margins of Peninsular plateau.
- Highest Peak: Guru Shikhar in Rajasthan.
