Swami Atmasthananda was from Kshetripara, now in Bangladesh. He received his spiritual initiation during his college days in 1938, at Belur Math from Swami Vijnanananda. He worked towards upliftment of disadvantaged communities, created welfare activities for the tribal population in Chhattisgarh, and was involved in the building of the TB sanatorium in Ranchi.
