  • The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has extended his best wishes to the Indian Coast Guard family on their Raising Day.
  • As the fourth largest Coast Guard in the world, the Indian Coast Guard has played a significant role in securing the Indian Coasts and enforcing regulations in the Maritime Zones of India.

About the Indian Coast Guard

  • The Indian Coast Guard was formally established on 1 February 1977 by the Coast Guard Act, 1978 of the Parliament of India.
  • The Indian Coast Guard is a maritime law enforcement and search and rescue agency of India with jurisdiction over its territorial waters including its contiguous zone and exclusive economic zone.

ICGS Kuthar

  • The first Indian Coast Guard Ship ICGS Kuthar (Pennant No. 31) was transferred from the Indian Navy to the Indian Coast Guard in 1978.
