74th Martyrs’ Day: Death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

Why In News

• The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his Punya Tithi on Martyrs’ Day.
• Martyr’s Day or Shaheed Diwasis observed every year on January 30 in the memory of Mahatma Gandhi.
• Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated at Birla House by Nathuram Godse on 30th January,1948.

Significance

• On this day, the President, Vice-President, Prime Minister, Defence Minister, and the three service chiefs (Army, Air Force, and Navy) come together to lay floral wreaths at the Samadhi of Mahatma Gandhi in Raj Ghat, New Delhi.
