MLALAD Fund

Recently, the Delhi Cabinet has approved a 50% increase in the MLA-LAD (Local Area Development) funds, raising the annual allocation per legislator from ₹10 crore to ₹15 crore.

ABOUT MLALAD FUND

  • It is modeled on a similar programme for MPs, providing funding for each constituency directly from the government.
  • It provides funding for local development projects proposed by MLAs, such as repairing roads, installing streetlights, and improving public spaces like parks
  • Although MLAs do not directly receive the funds, they can recommend projects to the Deputy Commissioner for approval.
  • Developmental Focus: Projects must be of developmental nature and capable of being completed within a financial year, focusing on durable infrastructure.
  • Allocation: Funds are released annually as grant-in-aid, enabling districts to implement the projects.
