ABOUT KRISHNA RAJ SAGAR DAM (KRS)

• Location : Situated across the Cauvery River in the Mandya district of
• Construction: The dam was constructed between 1911 and 1931, named as Krishnaraja Sagara in 1917 after the king Krishnaraja Odeya IV.
• Purpose: to provide irrigation water to the drought-prone regions of Karnataka.
• Irrigation: Provides water for irrigation to the fertile plains of Mandya, Mysuru, and parts of Tamil Nadu.
• Water Supply : Supplies drinking water to cities like Mysuru and Bengaluru.
• Hydroelectric Power : Supply water to the hydro-electric power station at
