Current Context : Eminent Persons’ Group (EPG) on BIMSTEC Meets in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

• The 3rd Meeting of the Eminent Persons’ Group (EPG) on Future Directions of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) was held on 12-13 May 2024.
• The meeting was chaired by Soonthorn Chaiyindeepum of Thailand.
• Thailand is the current Chairman of BIMSTEC.
• The EPG has been tasked by the BIMSTEC to make a recommendation for reforming, revitalizing, and finding a new purpose for BIMSTEC so as to foster a prosperous, resilient and developed Bay of Bengal region.

BIMSTEC(Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation).

• The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) is an international organisation of seven South Asian and Southeast Asian nations comprising Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
• It was set up to prepare a roadmap for BIMSTEC’s future.
