A retired IAS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, Ashok Ranjan Basu, has been elevated to the post of chairman of Research Committee No. 48 on Administrative Culture of International Political Science Association (IPSA), Montreal, Canada. He will remain on the post till 2028. The committee, which does research work in administrative systems, has members from all over the world. The Deputy Commissioner and District Electoral Officer, Mukesh Rapswal has launched an election mascot and a sticker under the SVEEP(Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation ) campaign. Along with the delivery of the LPG cylinders, the residents would get an appeal to cast their votes through specially designed stickers. The Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti began a campaign against drug abuse in the state. The campaign will go on till June 28. Under the campaign, the samiti has prepared a plan to run a state-wide drive against drug abuse. A two-day training workshop on the causes and effects of addiction, and prevention measures was organised at Saksharta Bhawan, Mandi, on April 21 and 22. In the workshop, 75 master-trainers were trained. The government has released Rs 100 crore to clear the mounting Himcare payments in hospitals. Due to the pending payments of over Rs 300 crore under the scheme, several hospitals were struggling to provide healthcare under the scheme to the Himcare cardholders. The fourth edition of the Himalayan Expedition’s Silk Route Ultra Trail concluded at Narkanda, with Rigzin Gyurmeth emerging as the sole victor of the single-day 100-km ultra-trail marathon. Gyurmeth completed the race in 19 hours and 28 minutes with non-stop pace over the explored, ancient and untamed terrains of the Silk Route from Narkanda to Sarahan. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has tasked a Pune-based firm with preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to devise long-term strategies and measures aimed at safeguarding the Kullu-Manali national highway (NH-03) from potential flood devastation in the future. Last July, heavy rainfall caused extensive damage to the 37-km Kullu-Manali NH. Although repair work has been undertaken by the NHAI, several sections of the road remain significantly damaged, with portions washed away by floods.Read More
