Jahangiri Darwaza was erected as a memory of Jahangir’s visit in Kangra.
According to Tarikh-i-Punjab, Vijay Ram Chand succeeded to the Gaddi in A.D. 1660, he defied summons from the Imperial court, and consequently rajtilak was conferred on his brother Udai Ram.
During the reign of Shah Jahan, Nawab Asad Ullah Khan and Koch Quli Khan succeeded to the possession of the fort one after the other. Koch Quli Khan held the fort for 17 years till his death. He was buried on the bank of the branch of Ban Ganga, river, flowing near the fort.
