• Literally translated from what Subhash Chandra Bose said: “Tum Mujhe Khoon Do, Mai Tumhe Azadi Dunga.” He made this statement in Burma (now Myanmar ) in 1944 to the Indian National Army, urging the youth of India to take part in the freedom struggle with him. His words were aimed at inspiring and motivating them to fight more actively for the country and be willing to sacrifice their lives for India’s freedom.

• Do, or die, said Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, better known as Mahatma Gandhi. The Father of the Nation delivered this speech after a meeting of the All India Congress Committee on 7 August, 1942, a day before the Quit India resolution, declaring an immediate end of British Rule in India. “Mere jail jaane se kuch nahi hoga; karo ya maro,” which loosely translates to either we shall free India, or die in the attempt.

“Inquilab Zindabad“

• While the slogan was popularised by Bhagat Singh, it was coined by activist, freedom fighter and Urdu poet Hasrat Mohani in 1921. One could say it awakened the patriotic spirit among India’s youth, inspiring them to join the battle for Free India. It’s rightfully credited to the revolutionary, seeing as how Singh was one of the most courageous freedom fighters who gave his life for the country at the young age of 23, and the slogan translates to “long live the revolution”. It was a battle cry that brought countless number of people to the streets.

• Sold into slavery as a young boy, Iltutmish spent his early life in Bukhara and Ghazni under multiple masters. In the late 1190s, the Ghurid slave-commander Qutb ud-Din Aibak purchased him in Delhi, thus making him the slave of a slave.
