On 1 May 1960, Mahasu district was reduced in size when ‘Kinnaur’ district was carved out of ‘Chini tehsil’ and including fourteen villages of Rampur tehsil. It became sixth district of Himachal Pradesh, divided into three subdivisions, i.e. Nichar (Nichar tehsil), Kalpa (Kalpa and Sangla tehsils) and Pooh (Moorang and Pooh tehsils and Hangrang sub-tehsil).

Solan Constituent Assembly took place from 26 to 28th of January with Raja Durga Singh of Baghat as its Chairman and Thakur Sen Negi as Vice Chairman.
Popular leaders like Bhagmal Sautha, Thakur Sen Negi attended the assembly.
Y. S. Parmar and Padam Dev were not allowed to enter the assembly by the organizing Secretary Mahaveer Singh.
