• Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, addresses the opening ceremony of the WTO’s 12th Ministerial Conference in Geneva, Switzerland, on June 12, 2022.

• India’s very first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) train set reached ‘Duhai depot’ from the manufacturing plant located in Savli, Gujarat.
• According to officials, the trials runs are expected to commence by the end of this year while it will be operational for passengers from 2023.
• The first trial run will be on the 17- km long priority section constructed between Sahibabad to Duhai.
• Under the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, Alstom was awarded the contract of manufacturing the RRTS trains, as per which, they would be delivering 40 RRTS trainsets, including 10 three-car trainsets for Meerut Metro, bundled with rolling stock maintenance for 15 years.
• According to National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), the upcoming Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor is likely to reduce CO2 emissions by about 2,50,000 tonnes per year. The Corporation is planning to commence the operation on the priority section by the next year and commission the entire corridor by the year 2025. Once completed, the public will be able to cover the distance from Delhi to the city of Meerut in just 55 minutes.
• National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) – a joint venture company of Govt of India and States of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh is mandated for implementing the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) project across the National Capital Region, ensuring a balanced and sustainable urban development through better connectivity and access.

• Recently, a motor propelled paragliding trial run was conducted from Gharvasada paragliding take off point in Kutlehar Assembly segment.
• The site in Gharvasada village located on the Solasingi Dhaar mountain range was approved and notified about six months ago by the Himachal Pradesh Tourism and Civil Aviation department for undertaking paragliding adventure sports activities.
•  While trials for paragliding were conducted earlier by expert pilots from the Adventure Sports Directorate in Manali, the motor propelled para gliders were tested for the first time here.
• According to Rural Development Minister Virender Kanwar the trials were successful.
• Regular paragliding and motor propelled paragliding activities would be launched from the Gharvasada launching site and the vast stretch of plains on the banks of Gobind Sagar Lake in Androuli village has been earmarked as the touchdown site.
• Various types of adventure water sports activities had been tested by experts from the Pong Dam water sports institute.
• Orders have been placed for procurement of boats and other equipment through the Kutlehar Tourism Development Society headed by Deputy Commissioner Una for use in water sports activities in the lake.
• Kutlehar will be developed as a hub of adventure sports activities, which will immensely benefit the local youth in providing alternate livelihood opportunities.
