Question: Write down 4 differences between Man-made disasters and Natural disasters, with special reference to India. (4 Marks 60 words)

DIRECTIVE: the question is asking us to write directly the difference between the disasters of different kind. It is short type question requiring no major illustrations.
  
IntroductionAccording to UN disasters, are serious disruptions to the functioning of a community that exceed its capacity to cope using its own resources. Disasters can be caused by natural, man-made and technological hazards, as well as various factors that influence the exposure and vulnerability of a community.

Main Body Differences are

  • 1. Natural disasters are disasters caused by natural forces whereas Man-made disasters are caused by the activities of human beings
  • 2. Natural disasters take place regardless of human activities, while Man-made disasters take place essentially due to human activities without which inducement its origin is not possible.
  • 3. Steps can be taken to minimise the effect but not prevent it whereas Proper planning can prevent man-made disaster
  • 4. Example of natural disaster: floods, volcanic eruptions, droughts and landslides. Whereas Example of man-made disasters are : biological attacks, explosions, and chemical attacks.
