Introduction	In the history of Himachal, Dhami Kand is known as the dark chapter of the state. Dhami was a small principality which was under the rule of Rana. In order to raise voice against the freedom struggle and the kings, the Dhami principality in 1939, was formed.

Main Body	The demands were 1. Abolition of Begar 2. Reduction in land revenue 3. Recognition of the Dhami Praja Mandal The Rana rejected all demands and on 16 July, 1939, a delegation of 7 members headed by Bhag Mal Sautha proceeded towards Dhami to present the demands to Rana. Bhag Mal Sautha was arrested at Ghanahatti and feared Rana ordered to fire on the people. Two persons, Shri Uma Dutt, and Durga Das were killed and many were injured. The public demanded an independent enquiry, and Pt. J.L. Nehru sent Shanti Swarup Dhawan to present on the spot report.
