Question Write a short note on Battle of Mahal Morian (4 marks 60 words)

Understanding of question: critically means what conclusion was due to the battle. First narrate the participants of battle , then discuss the results.

Introduction	The Gorkhas, a martial tribe came to power in Nepal in the year 1768. They consolidated their military power and began to expand their territory. Gradually the Gorkhas annexed Sirmour and Shimla hill states. With the leadership of Amar Singh Thapa, Gorkhas laid siege to Kangra.

Main Body	Amar singh Thapa the Gurkha commander with 40,000 men crossed Sutlej at Bilaspur and Jiuri in Suket and was joined by various forces from different states. They met with Sansar Chand at Mahal Morian (Hamirpur). At first instance the combined forces were defeated but at second instance Sansar chand was defeated. Hence giving the Gurkhas the entry to polity of Himachal

Conclusion	The battle in long run made Sansar Chand loose Kangra fort when on 24^th August 1809 it was won over by Maharaj Ranjit Singh in order to save Kangra state from Gurkhas.
