QUESTION: Discuss the changing pattern of family among tribes in Himachal Pradesh. (4 marks/ 60 words)

Answer:

According to the Census 2011 the population of Himachal Pradesh is around 5.7% and the Scheduled areas constitutes around 42% of the total state area. Gaddis, Khampas , Pangwal,  Kinnaura etc., are the Scheduled Tribes of Himachal Pradesh.

  1. Now the families are more neo and nuclear as compared to past ones. E.g., Pangwal Tribe
  2. Nuclearity is increasing and jointness is decreas­ing.
  3. The radius of kinship relations within the circle of jointness is becoming smaller.
  4. Earlier families choose residence on Matriarchal lines, but now residence is influenced by work pattern.
  5. Families now due to globalisation have taken to modern means in their culture.
