QUESTION: Discuss the basic challenges encounter for the inclusion of tribals in Himachal Pradesh. (4 marks/60 words)

Answer:

According to the Census 2011 the population of Himachal Pradesh is around 5.7% and the Scheduled areas constitutes around 42% of the total state area. Gaddis, Khampas ,Pangwal,  Kinnaura etc., are the Scheduled Tribes of Himachal Pradesh.

Basic challenges encounter for the inclusion of tribals in Himachal Pradesh are as follows:

Geographical factors: Tough terrain, lack of connectivity isolates the tribals from rest of the society.

Cultural and Religious Problems: They believe that interactions with other culture will spoil their own culture.

Problems of administration and Government: It is noticed that very few officers, employees are interested to give their service in remote tribal region. So, there is lax in implementation of government policies.

Lack of NGOs, Social Reformers and Workers: generally, NGO’s and social workers are actively involved in various activities in urban and Rural areas but they have very less presence in tribal areas.

Various initiatives have been taken by the government like formation of five ITDPs, single line administration and various educational scholarships etc. for the inclusion of tribals in Himachal Pradesh.
