Soil Health Card (SHC) is an initiative under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare in 2015.  Soil Health Card is used to assess the current status of soil health. It will contain the status of his soil with respect to 12 parameters, namely N, P, K (Macro-nutrients); S (Secondary- nutrient); Zn, Fe, Cu, Mn, Bo (Micro – nutrients); and pH, EC, OC (Physical parameters). Based on this, the SHC will also indicate fertilizer recommendations and soil amendment required for the farm.


The scheme has been floated in the wake of rising crisis of soil health because of unscientific use of fertilizers which has adversely affected the soil health and decreased its productivity and production thus threating the very food security in the nation.


Objectives of Soil Health Card –

  1. To improve soil quality and profitability of farmers.
  2. Employment generation for rural youth.
  3. To update information on soil analysis.
  4. To provide soil testing facilities to farmers at their doorstep.
