Question Enumerate the current status and pattern of industrial growth in the state of Himachal Pradesh (8 Marks 120 words )

UNDERSTANDING OF QUESTION: enumerate means to list down. The question has 2 subparts. 1st one is the pattern of growth as been happening in the state and 2nd is current status( one can go through latest economic survey of the state for this) 
IntroductionIn a growing state of economy, industrialization occupies an important place. Himachal Pradesh has made significant achievements in industrialization in the past few years. The State has a well developed industry sector which has witnessed an average contribution to Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) of around 30 per cent 
Main BodyThe state is an emerging manufacturing hub for pharmaceuticals, textiles, light engineering goods, health, power, telecom and information technology. The State has laid emphasis on public private partnerships for investments in hydro power projects. The state government has recently announced various measures to promote industrialization in the state. To promote Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) in the State, the State government has announced online application filing for speedy approvals.

After statehood

Industrial growth attained momentum after 1978 when the district industries centre came into existence as a 100 % centrally sponsored scheme. Till 2003-04 , the growth was slow. Then PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji announced the industrial package for the state in January 2003, which proved to be a growth accelerator in the industrial sector. The Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh sector has emerged as the biggest pharmaceutical hub in the country. With a 7% contribution to state GDP in 1970, today the secondary sector boasts of contribution of 30 %. The state contribution recognized the importance of industrial policy and graded incentives are being offered with higher incentives to the inner areas of HP.


As on 31.01.2022, 33,094 enterprises have registered on the Udyam portal in the state, out of which 31,217 are Micro, 1,637 are Small and 240 are Medium enterprises. In addition to this 48 large industrial units are also working in the state.

ConclusionHence Himachal occupies a central place in country’s industrial output.
